Program ini berlangsung di Sungai Air Terjun, Botanical Garden, Penang. Seramai 27 orang murid Al-Mashoor telah menyertai program ini. Program ini telah dikendalikan oleh Nazmi selaku Pengerusi RR dan Mad Lillah selaku Naib Pengerusi RR serta mendapat bimbingan daripada Cikgu Linda selaku Guru Penasihat RR. Program ini merupakan sambungan daripada sesi-1 (Teori) yang telah diadakan di sekolah.

PROGRAM RIVER RANGER 2010

1. Tajuk : Kenali Sungai Air Itam

2. Pengenalan: Setiap sungai mempunyai riwayatnya masing-masing. Sungai Air Itam yang mengalir di belakang SMKA Al-Mashoor(L), Pulau Pinang berpunca daripada sungai kecil di pekan Air Itam. Sungai Air Itam mengalir ke dalam Sungai Pinang yang merupakan salah satu daripada sungai yang paling tercemar di dunia.

3. Rasional: ”Tak Kenal Maka Tak Cinta”. Aktiviti menyediakan pamphlet Sungai Air Itam bertujuan untuk menambahkan pengetahuan pelajar mengenai sungai ini. Pelajar akan meninjau aktiviti-aktiviti manusia di hulu sungai sehingga hilirnya. Mereka digalakkan untuk membuat siasatan mengenai punca-punca pencemaran sungai.

4. Matlamat: Menghasilkan pamphlet mengenai Sungai Air Itam untuk diedarkan dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah dan juga masyarakat umum.

5. Objektif :

(i) Membuat carian tentang Sungai Air Itam

(ii) Menyediakan pamphlet mengenai Sungai Air Itam

(iii) Meningkatkan kesedaran pelajar tentang pencemaran sungai dan kepentingan memelihara dan memulihara kesihatan sungai

6. Tarikh pelaksanaan : 25 September 2010

11. Penutup: Aktiviti ini akan meningkatkan kesedaran pelajar mengenai kepentingan menjaga sungai kita supaya tidak tercemar. Pihak River Ranger akan mengawasi pelajar sekolah semasa carian maklumat tentang Sungai Air Itam. Hasil pamphlet dapat diedarkan kepada warga sekolah dan masyarakat umum.

1. Tajuk : Portret Sungai Air Itam

2. Pengenalan: Sungai Air Itam mengalir di belakang SMKA Al-Mashoor(L), Pulau Pinang.

Pihak Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran telah membangunkan tebing Sungai Air Itam dan membina dinding untuk mencegah hakisan tebing sungai ini.

3. Rasional: Aktiviti melukis Portret Sungai Air Itam bertujuan untuk menarik perhatian pelajar terhadap Sungai Air Itam serta mendidik pelajar supaya menikmati dan menghargai keindahan semulajadi sungai. Ia juga dapat mencungkil imaginasi pelajar dan mengasah kreativiti pelajar dalam pembangunan persekitaran sungai untuk rekreasi.

4. Matlamat: Melaksanakan tanggungjawab River Ranger untuk menyemai kasih sayang terhadap sungai dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah

5. Objektif :

(i) Melukis wajah sungai dari perspekstif pelajar masing-masing

(ii) Mencungkil imaginasi pelajar dalam pembangunan persekitaran sungai

(iii) Menerapkan nilai cintai sungai dan menikmati keindahan alam semulajadi

11. Penutup: Aktiviti ini akan meningkatkan kesedaran kewujudan sungai di persekitaran kita. Pihak River Ranger bertanggungjawab untuk menanam perasaan cintai sungai dalam kalangan warga sekolah. Melalui aktiviti ini adalah diharapkan agar pelajar sedar akan keadaan dan persekitaran sungai dan mereka boleh menyumbangkan idea bagi membangunkan kawasan tepi sungai untuk rekreasi.

Natural Characteristics

One of the characteristics of a river is that it follows lazy loops and bends, or meanders. Why are rivers crooked and why does a river meander? Meanders are curves in a stream (or river). Rivers meander because that's just the way nature is.

Meanders usually appear wherever a river goes down a gentle slope, flowing around obstructions, through fine-grained soil that easily erodes but sticks together well enough to make firm banks. Obstructions in the land, such as trees or firm land, causes the river to bend and find another path. The river begins to hit against the banks until it erodes and forms a curve.

Meanders are important features of a river because it helps to regulate the velocity of the river. As the water winds around the curves, it hits the banks and this slows the flow of the water down. One of the reasons why we experience flooding in Malaysia, especially in cities such as Kuala Lumpur, is because many of our rivers have been straightened and channelised by concrete banks. Straight rivers mean that the water has no obstructions to slow down its flow, so the water can rise very fast.

What is a RIVER????


What is a river?

A river is a natural waterway on the Earth's surface, which channels freshwater from the mountains to the sea.

Rivers begin as small trickles of water up in the mountains. This is its source, and it eventually forms a small stream which then flows down the mountain. The water erodes the land, carving a bigger channel and forms the main river.

Upstream areas are characterized by steep V-shaped valleys, waterfalls, and fast flowing water among boulders and rocks. In the middle part, the river winds its way slowly through the flatter land, and continues to widen its channel by meandering and depositing material that is too heavy to carry in the water. As it makes its way out to the sea, it flows even more slowly and starts to deposit even more material in and around its own channel. At its mouth, where the river meets the sea, there is a sudden drop in velocity, and all the material that was being carried in the water column is deposited right there. As the material builds up from continuous deposition, the mouth of the river gets blocked and the river has to find new outlets into the sea by carving new streams wherever it can. This is the formation process of a delta and is characteristic of all river mouth areas.
